Designing a Business That Evolves With the Founder

PROBLEM

How can we design a fashion business that grows in harmony with its founder, its collaborators and the living systems it exists within?

THE CONTEXT

Building Little Things Studio over the past eight years has given me something no client project ever could - the opportunity to observe, question and redesign a business from the inside.

As both founder and designer, I began questioning many of the assumptions that shape the fashion industry. Must every business pursue endless growth? Can success be measured beyond revenue? What happens when we design businesses that respect human energy, creativity and the natural rhythms of life?

These questions gradually transformed Little Things Studio into more than a fashion brand. It became an ongoing design inquiry into building a regenerative creative practice.

WHAT I NOTICED

The longer I built my own business, the more I noticed patterns.

Many businesses are designed for speed, while creativity unfolds through observation.

Many systems reward constant output, while meaningful ideas often emerge through periods of rest, reflection and experimentation.

Many brands focus on scaling products, yet the long-term health of a business depends equally on the wellbeing of the people creating it.

These observations shifted the way I approached design—not as a series of isolated decisions, but as an interconnected system where founder, team, craft, materials, customers and nature continuously influence one another.

THE CREATIVE RESPONSE

Instead of redesigning only the products, I began redesigning the business itself.

This ongoing exploration has led me to develop a more intentional framework centred around:

  • Designing systems that support both creativity and wellbeing.

  • Building collections around thoughtful rhythms rather than constant production.

  • Creating stronger relationships between craft, materials and contemporary lifestyles.

  • Making strategic decisions that consider long-term environmental and social impact.

  • Aligning business growth with the values of care, curiosity and conscious leadership.

Rather than treating these as separate initiatives, I see them as interconnected parts of one evolving ecosystem.

THE IMPACT

This work continues to shape both Little Things Studio and my consulting practice.

It has changed the questions I ask, the way I approach collaboration and the kinds of businesses I want to help build.

Today, I work with a stronger belief that meaningful businesses are not simply designed for growth—they are designed to help people, communities and ideas flourish together.

REFLECTION

The most transformative design project I’ve ever worked on has been my own business. It has taught me that every challenge carries a question beneath it, and every question is an invitation to redesign the system rather than simply solve the symptom. That perspective continues to shape the way I think, create and collaborate today.

ONGOING RESEARCH

Little Things Studio continues to be an evolving research practice exploring regenerative business, creative systems, material intelligence and founder-centred design. The ideas developed through this work inform my consulting, writing and long-term vision for building businesses that create value for people, craft and the wider ecosystem.

Let's build something meaningful together.

Whether you're looking for a Creative Director, a design strategist, a collaborator or simply want to exchange ideas, I'd love to hear from you.
