Reimagining Heritage Through Contemporary Design

PROBLEM
How can a print-led fashion brand introduce fresh silhouettes and broaden its appeal without losing the visual identity its customers already love?
THE CONTEXT
Pita Nila is an Indian fashion brand recognised for its distinctive print-led collections, often elevated through intricate embroidery. As the brand looked to expand its product offering, the goal was to introduce new silhouettes that felt contemporary while remaining true to its established design language.
The challenge wasn’t to reinvent the brand—it was to thoughtfully evolve it.

WHAT I NOTICED
As I studied the existing collections, I observed a strong reliance on printed garments as the brand’s primary expression.
This presented an opportunity to introduce moments of visual balance through solid-coloured pieces with subtle embroidery, creating a complementary product category for customers who appreciated understated elegance while remaining connected to the brand’s aesthetic.
I also recognised the need for silhouettes that offered greater versatility, comfort and inclusivity across different body types and lifestyles.
THE CREATIVE RESPONSE
I designed a focused capsule of versatile silhouettes, including kaftans and coordinated sets, that expanded the brand’s design language without disrupting its identity.
The collection explored:
-
Solid colour garments enhanced with refined embroidery
-
Contemporary silhouettes designed for versatility and ease
-
Relaxed forms that flatter a wide range of body types
-
Products that complemented the existing print-led collections while attracting new customer preferences
Rather than replacing the brand’s signature style, the collection introduced a quieter visual rhythm that strengthened the overall assortment.
THE IMPACT
The project demonstrated how thoughtful product innovation can create new opportunities for growth without compromising a brand’s core identity.
By expanding both the silhouette vocabulary and aesthetic offering, the collection opened possibilities to engage a broader customer base while reinforcing the brand’s distinctive character.
REFLECTION
I often find myself looking beyond what’s being created and becoming curious about what’s not. In this project, that curiosity led me to explore the space between the brand’s existing identity and the customers it hadn’t spoken to yet. For me, that’s where meaningful design begins.
